Books for Lent, aka devotionals, can be so useful in preparing us Holy Week and Easter. They are meant to help guides us, as Christians, through self-examination, prayer, and fasting to focus on the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus. Lent is meant to mirror His 40 days in the wilderness.
Most Lenten devotionals use prayers, scripture, and quotes of the Saints and Christ Himself. It helps us to dedicate our time and energy on Christ without distraction.

The Best Books for Lent
Toward Easter Fr. Patrick Troadec- This is by far my favorite Lenten Devotional. I use this book every Lent and I have for the past 5 years. It is so good. It has scripture verses, a short meditation based on the reading from the day’s mass, saint quotes, prayers, and resolutions to help you get into the sacrificial mindset. The readings take maybe 5 minutes a day. It is a manageable amount of reading for any season of life. I like to read them in the car for my whole family.
Lent and Easter Wisdom from Fulton J Sheen by Fr. John Mudd- These are great bite-sized meditations from Archbishop Fulton Sheen. They are so nice to read and a spend a few minutes meditating on and praying about. I like this one too, because it only takes a minute or two, but packs a nice punch as far substance.
Sermons of St. Francis de Sales by S. Francis de Sales- Of course anything by St. Francis de Sales is great. I like to read this on Sundays. There are 12 sermons in the book so I try and read two on each Sunday of Lent, but if not I’ll find other days during the week to read them.
2026 Magnificat Lenten Companion– I haven’t read this one yet, but it comes highly recommended. Thankfully, I just found out that my Library has it through the Hoopla app, so I’ll be reading this one this year for sure. I love the Lenten Devotionals that have a page or two curated for each day of Lent. This makes them very easy to keep up with.

Conclusion
Finding the right Lenten Devotional can make all the difference when it comes to preparing our heart, minds, and souls for the Holy Week and Easter. I, personally, like devotional that gives me a little bit to take in every day. Preferably something that doesn’t take too long. I hope that the books that I offered above are exactly what you need for this Lenten season.
