Living Liturgically looks different to every family and in different seasons. October has some of my favorite feast days, so it seemed fitting that this would be the first month that I tackle in this new series of mine. I want to give credit where credit is due and the idea of this post comes from Elizabeth Clare. Please check out her post on how her family incorporates the October Feast Days into their daily living.

Remember that you may be celebrating other saint’s feast days based on your own private devotions. There are so many beautifully ways to celebrate our religion and bringing ourselves closer to Christ and salvation.
*Just so you are aware, I personally, go by the Traditionally Catholic Calendar, so the dates and feasts that I have outlined here may not be the same ones you go by if you follow the Modern Catholic Calendar.
October is the month of Most Holy Rosary

I love having a shelf dedicated to the seasonal liturgical living kids books. We enjoy reading and learning about the saints of the day. I did not get all of these books at once and you shouldn’t feel pressured to either. This list is just to give you some ideas of saint books that are tried and true.
Activities for the Month
My Family’s Activities
St. Francis is a rather important feast for my family specifically. Two years ago we miscarried our son at 9 weeks gestation and we named him Francis. October 4th is his feast day, so we try and make it a little more special in remembrance of him. We read some of the St. Francis books, we have the kids go outside and pick something to give to Frankie as a Feast day gift (a pinecone, a flower, a rock, etc.) and then we process up the hill to the statue of our Lady where our memorial rock for Frankie is and we lay our presents down at Mary’s feet. I make rice krispy treats because we always call our babies Rice Krispies when we don’t know their gender yet in the womb. It is truly a very special day for us.
We also have bird houses like these to make and I think St. Francis’ Feast day is the perfect day to make them in his honor. Follow me on IG to find out how they turn out.
We make sure to get the Rosary said everyday as a family for the month of October especially. Our parish also has a festival for this feast day as well. There are games, a pie competition, and we the entire 15 decade Rosary throughout the day as a parish.
Resources for Other Activities
I enjoy finding activities for the kids to do to better understand the feast days. We use coloring pages, activities pages, sticker sheets, puzzles, etc. I will link below some of my favorites that you can try with your kids.
Catholic Icing has a really great post about the different activities that she does with her kids for the saints’ feast of October- linked here. Check her website out because she a ton of kids’ activities.
The Catholic Kid website has some fantastic coloring sheets. I’ll link to the St. Therese and the St. Francis ones.
If you’re looking for saint stickers, puzzles, Montessori-style wooden toys, saint plush dolls, or peg dolls Shining Light Dolls is definitely where you want to check. We have almost all of their mini puzzles and their St. Francis plush doll. I love love LOVE their items. And more importantly, my kids love their items too.
Baking/Cooking with the Saints
I usually make angel food cake cupcakes for the feast of the Guardian Angels. I make a whip cream frosting and top with diced berries. Or if I don’t have the energy for that… which happens… a lot. I buy an angel food cake, cool whip and berries and it is still just as delicious. I also own the book Cooking with the Saints and they suggest making Angel Wing cookies, which do not look too complicated and do look very delicious.
Elizabeth Clare, whom I follow and love, makes eclairs for St. Therese of Lisieux because apparently she loved them… who doesn’t? And I am absolutely buying those this year to celebrate her feast day.
Cooking with the Saints suggests making I Mostacciolo Del San Francesco D’Assisi (St. Francis of Assisi Cookies). These also look easy and delicious so I’ll try making them and report back on my Instagram. Check and follow me on IG.
Cooking with the Saints also has a delicious Italian version of French toast for St. Teresa of Avila’s Feast Day. This recipe is called Pan De Santa Teresa or St. Teresa’s Bread.
None of these recipes have crazy ingredients. Everything is already in my fridge or pantry. I definitely recommend this book.

These are some of my ideas on what Living Liturgically in October looks like to my family. Nothing crazy. We only celebrate the feasts that truly mean something to our family. I love this time of year and I have to admit that living liturgically gets easier the closer Christmas gets. I hope this post helps you celebrate some amazing feasts this month of October. If you have other activities or recipes for these feasts please comment below.
